Collaboration is King

I am getting clients who are very skilled in their own right, but are big fans of the idea of collaborating. This is really fun for all concerned. I always loved to do this with my mentor, Mike Smith, because I could absolutely count on him taking my brightest ideas and coming up with ways to improve on them. We were sort of an early-days-of-WISE-consulting Wozniak and Jobs without all the zeros after our net worth. How about you? Should you use collaboration? If so, how?

What Results Emerge?

The whole point of collaboration is to achieve a better result. Steve Jobs in this brief video interview says, “One of the keys to Apple is Apple’s an incredibly collaborative company.” (Click to watch.)

Today’s environment is far riper for great achievement than any prior time in history. While there are “Dark Age” forces hard at work and these get most of the traditional media attention, they are factually a small minority.

Probably, like me, you’ve wondered what you could do to make the world a better place, to contribute in some way. A solo-preneur has a harder time making a significant contribution than a team. Even if you just operate with a virtual team and outsourcing, you can multiply your efforts. If you can’t afford to hire a high-level executive full time, you can hire one part time to collaborate with you to create the effect you’re looking to achieve.

Start-up Style Is in

Are you a start-up? Steve Jobs in the interview linked to above calls Apple “the world’s largest start-up.” They never got into being a bureaucracy! Does it work?

According to Forbes in May, 2017, “For the past year, Apple saw $217 billion in sales, $45 billion in profit, $331 billion in assets and a market cap of $752 billion. Apple is not only the largest tech company in the world, but also the 9th largest company in the world.”

A-level players hire A-level teammates. B-level players hire C-level teammates. Steve Jobs was famous for his search for A+ talent. His body is no longer with us but his legacy is indelible.

In recent hiring decisions my clients have made, we consistently opt for A-level folks, even part-time, rather than an army of B-and-C-level drones. Be aware: Not everyone who has an A-level resume produces A-level products, and vice verse.

One very successful client is fond of saying “Ten morons don’t make a genius!”

In building his 8-figure software company, he discovered that a dozen regular programmers couldn’t solve problems that one really superior programmer (that he had to pay twice as much) could solve with ease.

So, in creating your company, hire or collaborate with those who can take you to the next level and beyond!

Collaborate with and seek advice from the best and brightest you can access!
