How to Start Your Day

We all experience the overload and overwhelm of too much to do in too little time. I’m frequently asked how to get more done. One solution is getting off to a good start.

Starting on the Right Foot

A primary issue is “What are you getting done?” The whole point of efficiency is to achieve a better end result. Accomplishing more and more trivial stuff doesn’t count for much.

It’s vital to have:

  • Guidelines as to where you’re going (Goals and Policy)…
  • That you implement using a brilliant idea of how to achieve that effectively without flubs (Strategic Plan)…
  • That is then executed through the day-to-day actions you and your team take (to-do lists / Battle Plans and Formulas).

If you don’t have the map drawn, then going faster may not help. Getting there starts with defining “there”!

Hit the Gas!

If you’ve got your goals dialed in, hitting the gas means starting your day. I find it helps to have a morning ritual that sets up the day and puts me firmly in my own driver’s seat.

I start with 6 items. Try it. Adjust it to what works for you, have fun and let me know what you think!

Start Organized

1) I start by making my bed. I put order into my own living area as a first action.
2) I get my head on straight. I go over the Chart of Attitudes that I want to exemplify.
3) I get my body being responsive by doing 5 to 10 reps of something, like push ups or sit ups. If you start your day at the gym, go for it!
4I prepare of cup of tea or CalMag. Maybe you’re a Starbucks fan. Herb tea is my choice, generally Red Zinger. I squeeze a green smoothie for breakfast in here, too.
5) I sit down at my desk, push back and confront my area. Maybe something will jump out at me and I’ll dive into work quickly. Other times I take my time and the important things bubble up to the surface. I jot them down and when I feel “I’m here!”, I get rolling.
6) I review the Battle Plan and Formula I’m working on for the day and week.

Life happens, so I don’t get these done as written more than 40% of the time, but it provides stability and a good start.

Start your day on the right foot for a week and let me know how you feel!
